License

AionDB core is source-available under the Business Source License 1.1 (BUSL-1.1). The full, authoritative license text lives at the root of the repository in LICENSE. This page is only a short orientation summary and is not legal advice.

The Business Source License is not an OSI Open Source license. AionDB releases convert to the Apache License 2.0 on the change date stated in LICENSE, or on the fourth anniversary of the release, whichever comes first.

Commercial licenses are available under a separate written agreement.

Permitted use

The BSL additional use grant permits production use, embedding, modification, derivative works, redistribution, and internal services, subject to the license terms.

Database Service restriction

You may not use AionDB as a Database Service without a separate commercial license, unless the entity making that use qualifies as a Qualifying Small Company under LICENSE.

LICENSE defines Database Service as a product, service, platform, or commercial offering that uses AionDB to provide database functionality to third parties, other than your direct employees or contractors working on your behalf, and enables those third parties to create, manage, or control schemas or tables.

LICENSE defines a Qualifying Small Company as a legal entity that, together with its affiliates:

• has fewer than 20 employees and individual contractors worldwide; and
• has received less than USD 1,000,000 in gross annual revenue or funding during the preceding 12 months.

For this threshold, revenue or funding is measured before deducting costs or expenses. It is not measured by profit.

Commercial use

Commercial licenses are available for users who need terms outside the BSL, including:

• hosted database, managed database service, or DBaaS offerings by entities that do not qualify as a Qualifying Small Company;
• terms different from the BSL restriction or change-date model;
• commercial support terms.

Commercial licensing requires a separate agreement with the Licensor.

Trademarks

The license does not grant any right in the trademarks or logos of the Licensor.

Warranty disclaimer

AionDB is provided on an "AS IS" basis under the BSL unless a separate commercial agreement says otherwise.

Third-party materials

Parts of the test corpora, fixtures, and benchmark inputs in this repository are derived from third-party sources and remain under their original licenses. Notable examples:

• The Cypher Technology Compatibility Kit (TCK) under testing/cypher-tck/ is Apache License 2.0 with the upstream copyright notices preserved.
• Other vendored test data preserves its upstream license and attribution.

When redistributing AionDB, keep NOTICE, THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.md, and any vendored third-party license files alongside the source.

Contributions

By contributing patches to this repository you agree that your contributions are licensed under BUSL-1.1, unless explicitly stated otherwise in the contribution itself.

Contributions must follow the repository contribution policy in CONTRIBUTING.md, including the Developer Certificate of Origin sign-off process.
